School Health Services

The VNASC Department of School Health supports and enhances the effectiveness of school nurses in their specialty practice by enabling them to utilize their comprehensive skills to serve the health needs of the children and their families.

VNASC has a long history of providing nurses and school health aides to the school systems in southeastern Connecticut. Currently the program provides staff in East Lyme, Waterford, New London and Groton.

School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that enhances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student response to normal development, promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy and learning.
