VNASC is not just mandated to care for those who have the means to pay for our services, but to care for those who have limited or no financial resources. “The people in our region” include those who are poor, disenfranchised, homeless, children, under-insured, jobless, mentally ill, single mothers, suffering from addiction . . . it’s everyone. And this group is growing every day. In fact, with the help of many generous donors, we provided over $850,000 in free and subsidized care last year. In addition to the skilled nurses, physical therapists, home health aides, nutritionists, social workers, and other professionals who made home visits to those who could not afford to pay, we also provided numerous foot care clinics at area homeless shelters, nurse-managed wellness clinics in New London and Groton, and critical support to poor first-time mothers and their babies.
